4 killed in chase that ended in crash in Upland

Four people died after a high-speed chase ended in a crash in Upland early Friday morning.

The crash happened just before 2 a.m. at the intersection of North Mountain Avenue and West 16th Street, according to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities said the pursuit began after a Rancho Cucamonga sheriff’s deputy tried to stop the vehicle after the car drove away. The chase continued to Upland, where the fatal crash occurred.

SkyCAL flew over the scene, which showed debris strewn across the intersection. One vehicle was cut in half and the front of another was crushed.

The intersection and surrounding area are closed while work is carried out at the scene.
