Ministry reveals 4.9 million speeding offenses recorded in UAE in 2023

The Ministry of Home Affairs revealed that in 2023, 4,920,558 speeding offenses were recorded across the country. Of these, 4,202,967 were related to exceeding the speed limit by no more than 20 km/h.

In total, 587,527 offenses were recorded for exceeding the speed limit by no more than 40 km/h, and 130,064 offenses were recorded for exceeding the speed limit by no more than 50 km/h.

Statistics on road accidents by type of accidents that occurred in the UAE last year show that 87 accidents were caused by speeding, regardless of road conditions. Abu Dhabi led the way with 48 accidents, followed by Dubai with 37, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah with one each.

Fines for speeding range from 300 to 3,000 dirhams. If you exceed the speed limit by no more than 20 km/h, you will be fined 300 dirhams.

If you exceed the speed limit by no more than 30 km/h, you will be fined 600 dirhams. If you exceed the speed limit by no more than 40 km/h, you will be fined 700 dirhams.

If you exceed the speed limit by no more than 50 km/h, you will be fined Dhs1,000. If you exceed the speed limit by no more than 60 km/h, you will be fined Dhs1,500 with six traffic points and your vehicle will be impounded for 15 days.

If you exceed the speed limit by more than 60 km/h, you will be fined 2,000 dirhams and 12 penalty points, and your vehicle will be towed for 30 days.

If you exceed the speed limit by more than 80km/h, you will be fined Dhs3,000 with 23 traffic points and your vehicle will be impounded for 60 days.

The ministry said speeding accidents caused serious damage, including rollovers, running over people, falls, rear-end collisions, hitting fixed objects off the road, hitting animals, hitting lamp posts, hitting concrete barriers, hitting road signs and others.
