The bodies of a farmer, his wife and three children were found in their house in a village in Alirajpur district of Madhya Pradesh on Monday, police said.

At first glance, it is a case of suicide, the official said.

The bodies of Rakesh Dodwa (27), his wife Lalita Dodwa (25) and their sons Prakash (7) and Akshay (5) were found hanging side by side on a rope from the ceiling of their kuchha house, while the body of their daughter Laxmi (9) was found lying on the floor, the official said.

Citing initial information, police initially said all five bodies were hanging inside the house. However, a villager later informed police that the couple and their two sons were found hanging while the girl’s body was lying on the floor of their house in Ravdi village.

“We received information about the death of five people in Ravdi village in Sondwa tehsil at 9:20 am on Monday,” a police officer said.

A team headed by a senior police officer (SCO) from Alirajpur has been constituted to investigate the incident as no suicide note was found at the spot, he said.

At first glance, the incident occurred between 7pm Sunday and 6am Sunday morning.

According to the police, the head of the family, Rakesh Dodwa, was a farmer. He also worked as a bricklayer in Gujarat.

A dog squad and a forensic team reached the spot and collected fingerprints. A forensic team from Indore has also reached the spot, the police said, adding that the post-mortem is being videotaped.
