A robbery accused was found hanging at the Chandgaon police station in Chattogram port on Wednesday morning.

The deceased was identified as Md Jewela, 26, son of Abdul Malek, also known as Abdul Mabud, of Khejurtala in Chandgaon district.

Zahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of Chandgaon police station, said after examining CCTV footage, it emerged that Jewel, who was arrested by the police on Tuesday evening in connection with the robbery case, committed suicide by hanging himself on the police station’s ventilator around 6.30 am using his shirt.

Jewel was wanted in seven cases registered at the Kotwali police station, he said.

According to OC, he may have committed suicide due to depression.

Jewel’s mother Minara Begum and her sister Salma Akter went to the police station in the morning.
