Former Imo Governor Okorocha’s House Collapses in Abuja, Police Respond

FCT, Abuja – This is not the best of times for former Imo State Governor, Rochas Okorocha, as his five-storey building, which was being renovated, collapsed in Abuja.

It was gathered that the building collapsed at Ahmadu Bello Way in Abuja at about 9pm on Monday, July 1.

The building collapse has caused panic among residents across the capital territory (FCT).

FCT Police spokeswoman Josephine Adeh confirmed the building collapse in a statement, The Nation reports.

Adeh said police officers managed to rescue three people from the collapsed building after cordoning off the entire area.

She added that the rescued people were taken to hospital for treatment.

“The FCT Police Command hereby confirms that yesterday, 1st July 2024, at about 8:40pm, a building collapse occurred at Unity House, Area 11, Nkwere Street.

“In response to the call for help, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Benneth C. Igweh, psc, mni, immediately rushed to the scene with multiple patrols as first responders to cordon off the area for possible rescue operation.

“Three injured people were evacuated from the collapsed building and taken to hospital for medical assistance.”

According to The Punch, FCT Fire Service Director Amiola Adebayo, who also confirmed the incident, said no one was killed.

Four-storey building collapses in Onitsha

Before, Legit.ng reported that a four-storey building under construction at Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS), Onitsha, Anambra State, collapsed on Wednesday, June 12, trapping several people under the rubble.

The incident occurred at around 7:15 a.m. when the building, which was almost completed, suddenly collapsed.

Eyewitnesses said the structure began to collapse from the top floor and then collapsed completely, leaving rubble behind.
