Man crashes car while driving alone to hospital after shooting

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man crashed his car while driving to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

According to detectives, around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a call at Hart Expressway and University Boulevard South and found a crashed car. The driver, a man in his 30s, had a gunshot wound to his upper torso and was taken to a local hospital in non-life-threatening condition.

Detectives learned the victim had gotten into a fight with someone outside a restaurant on Beach Boulevard and was shot by an unknown person when the situation escalated. The victim then attempted to drive himself to the hospital but lost control and crashed nearby.

Detectives said there was a witness in the car with the victim and they are currently talking to him about both the shooting and the accident.
