An elderly couple allegedly committed suicide at their home in Bengaluru’s Byappanahalli area after their daughter-in-law allegedly left home recently. The deceased were identified as Chandrashekar, 54, and his wife Sharada, 45, according to police.

They added that the incident came to light on Monday at around 6:30 p.m. when their younger son was returning home from a shop located near their home.

Police said Prashanth, the elder son of Chandrashekar and Sharada, got married to Deeksha three months ago and they were living together in the family home. Police added that Deeksha allegedly did not get along with her in-laws and there were frequent domestic disputes. The elders in the family tried to arrange a compromise meeting, which she rejected and left the house, according to a police official.

Though the police did not find any death certificate, the couple’s family in their complaint stated that a family conflict between Chandrashekar and Sharada and Deeksha could have been the reason for their death.

Byappanahalli police took up the case and initiated an investigation.
