In a small town in regional Victoria, a brutal murder-suicide has claimed the life of a mother of five.

Neighbours on a street in the small Ballarat suburb of Sebastopol say they witnessed a “turbulent relationship” between mum Rebecca Young, 42, and alleged Bandidos gang member Ian Butler, 55, before the pair died suddenly on Friday night.

Victoria Police confirmed homicide officers were called to a house on Morgan Street at about 9pm and found the bodies of Ms Young and Mr Butler there.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the incident have not been established at this stage, however detectives are not seeking anyone else in connection with the case,” police said in a statement on Saturday.

“Police also believe the parties involved in the incident knew each other.”

Neighbours told Nine News the couple were in a “turbulent relationship” and had heard arguments between them before their deaths.

“It was a real shock for me,” neighbour Valmai Ashmore said after the incident.

“A few of my friends called me to ask if I was OK because something happened on Morgan Street.”

Neighbours also reported hearing screams of pain from Ms Young’s parents at this address.

Mrs Young is known to have moved to this address six months previously.
