SUV driver charged with manslaughter in fatal crash involving church van

A Hartwell man has been charged with vehicular homicide in the death of a 15-year-old boy who died from injuries sustained in a church van crash, the Georgia State Patrol said.

GSP confirmed Friday that Barry Thomas Clark, 64, has been charged in the death of Teddy Bone of Eastanollee.

Bone was a passenger in a River Point Community Church van in Demorest that was struck by a Toyota 4Runner at the intersection of GA 365 South and Demorest-Mt. Airy Highway. Police say Clark was driving the SUV that struck the van on June 29.

Authorities initially charged Clark with driving under the influence of alcohol, failure to obey a traffic control device and causing serious injury while driving. That charge was upgraded to first-degree manslaughter after Bone’s death on July 3.

Clark, who had been released on bail after his first arrest, was re-arrested on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. He was released on $30,000 bail.

The Georgia State Police Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is still investigating the crash. Georgia State Police Public Information Officer Courtney Lund said additional charges could be filed against Clark.
